Another important step was taken over the week-end to consolidate civil authority outside Monrovia when UNMIL Officer-in-Charge, Mr. Jordan Ryan, turned over a newly-rehabilitated community hall in Tubmanburg, 60 kilometers west of Monrovia to local authorities.

Bashir open the rehabilitated hall Performing the official turnover of the community hall, OIC Jordan Ryan, said, “we hope that this project will become a magnet for the local community to come together to talk with local officials to make sure the needs of the local people are expressed and discussed, and shared with county officials and ultimately with national officials.
Mr. Ryan then expressed optimism that this center will play a very important role in the future of Bomi County. The community hall before rehabilitation Officer-in-Charge Ryan lauded UNMIL Pakistani engineers, through their Commander, Brigadier General Nazarat Bashir, for implementing the renovation project, funded through UNMIL Quick Impact Projects.
The Pakistani Contingent and Engineering Company have done an enormous beneficial service to the community by doing more than what was expected. So we deeply appreciate your work. Your mission is soon to be accomplished here and you will soon be leaving Liberia. You should be proud of the good work done here. Every time I come to Tubmanburg, I see that things are getting better, Mr. Ryan said.
The Superintendent of Bomi County, Hon. Mohammed Massalley, expressed deep appreciation to the United Nations family for the refurbished building and all the good things done for the people of Bomi. “We are too grateful.
This structure that has been renovated stood in tartars couple of weeks ago to the extent that the children could not even play in there. But today, it is serving as a symbol of light in Bomi County, Superintendent Massalley said. The newly rehabilitated building is to facilitate the local government of Bomi in discharging its functions and afford the local population of Tubmanburg a convenient place for their community meetings and functions, including a venue to resolve matters amongst the people.
Tubmanburg has an estimated population of 93,000. The turnover ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister for operations, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ms. Yah Karlian, Commissioner of Senjeh District, Mr. James Gbessay, traditional leaders and elders, and the Commander of Pakistani Contingent III, Brigadier General Nazarat Bashir.
