(BUSH CHICKEN USA) The Grand Gedeh County Associations in the US on last week Sunday the 27th of May 2007 elected a new corps of officers to a two year term of office. The Glay-Kaine team won with a total of 187 votes to the Dennis-Pardea’s team 180.
The election process which started off on the wrong footing with the change of the venue from the Holiday Inn to the Ashworth Park in Des Moines saw voters casting ballots way into the middle of the night.
The hotly contested election which is the first in six years ends the cycle of ascension to leadership of the organization by acclamation.
The convention and elections were attended by close to 500 delegates and guests from the association’s nine chapters and well wishers from across the Diaspora.
The programs started on Friday with a welcome reception at the Holiday Inn with remarks made by various chapter’s heads and announcements from the convention planning committee.
On Saturday, the 26th of May, the program which was scheduled to start at 8am and break at about 12 pm actually kicked off at about 2 pm due to the delayed arrival of the guest speaker, the Vice President of Liberia Dr. Joseph Boakai.
The program which was well attended by members of the association also provided members of the body the opportunity to hear from their local and federal leaders.
Information received about the proceeds from the ball placed the revenue generated at about $17,000. Members of the organization were taxed $50.00 as sitting fee.
The BC will be bringing in the next few days news and analysis from the convention and activities surrounding the elections of Henry Glay and Dusty Kaine as the new President and Vice President of the Grand Gedeh Associations in the US.
